Linksys WAP11

The Linksys WAP11

The Linksys WAP11 is a nice, low cost wireless access point which has several notable features including wireless bridgeing and connectors for an external antenna.

The WAP11 uses RP-TNC antenna connectors. These are the same shape and size as regular TNC connectors except that they have a hole in the centre rather than a pin. They are not interchangeable. I've made an RP-TNC to N converter using the connector from one of the supplied antennas, an in-line N socket and a short length of RG58 cable. I would not recommend taking your access point apart as this will invalidate any warranty. The connector can be removed from the antenna by cutting the black plastic as far away from the plug as possible and then cutting the thin internal cable. This can then be carefully soldered to the RG58. I've then covered this in glue with cable ties to give it strength. A bit of a mess but it works and is quite strong.

Note: If selecting left or right antenna connectors in the configuration software, the right antenna is as viewed from the rear of the unit, not the front.
